KATHMANDU: The trailer of the much-anticipated Nepali feature film ‘Bhuthan’ has been officially released.

During a special event held on Tuesday, the film’s production team unveiled the trailer, offering a powerful glimpse into its socially-driven narrative.

The three-minute trailer reveals that the film revolves around the life of Bhutanese refugees who migrated to the United States. Central to the story is an elderly man’s emotional journey as he attempts to return to Bhuthan in the twilight of his life.

The trailer subtly portrays the pain of living in a foreign land while being deeply rooted in one’s homeland.

Despite the physical comforts of life abroad, ‘Bhuthan’ reflects on the emotional and spiritual disconnect caused by differences in religion, culture, and traditions.

The trailer also highlights the impact of familial conflicts driven by cultural and religious values.

Titled ‘The World’s Happiest Man’ in English, the film stars legendary actor Hari Bansha Acharya in the lead role, showcasing him in a never-seen-before avatar. His gripping performance and thought-provoking dialogues make the trailer emotionally compelling and impactful.

The ensemble cast includes Dayahang Rai, Anuradha Majumdar, Pooja Chand-Lama, Richa Ghimire, Joyce Pandey, Aditi Pyakurel, Tom Crain, and Bimal Subedi. Notably, world-renowned Hollywood actor Bruce Dern also plays a special role in the film.

‘Bhuthan’ is the first Nepali film produced under Hollywood’s SAG-AFTRA banner, with contributions from several Hollywood technicians.

The film captures the untold story of Bhutanese people who, after being displaced, are now living across Bhutan, India, Nepal, and the United States. It presents a heartfelt narrative of love for one’s homeland and the pain of leaving behind one’s roots.

‘Bhuthan’ is set to release on Baisakh 12 (April 25, 2025).
