KATHMANDU: The government has called on protesting teachers to return to their respective workplaces, citing ongoing academic activities including student admissions, the SEE answer sheet evaluation, and the Grade 12 national examinations.

The decision was made during Tuesday’s Cabinet meeting, which appealed to the teachers to suspend their protest programs in the greater interest of students and the academic calendar.

Minister for Education, Science, and Technology, Bidya Bhattarai, said the government is seriously concerned about the protests organized by the Nepal Teachers’ Federation.

She announced that a session of the Federal Parliament has been summoned for Baisakh 12 to expedite the passage of the School Education Bill currently under parliamentary discussion.

Minister Bhattarai further stated that the government is sensitive to the demands raised by the teachers’ federation and remains committed to continued dialogue.

Since Chaitra 20, teachers have been staging daily sit-ins and rallies from Maitighar Mandala to New Baneshwor.
