Health Minister insists on continued efforts to bring maternal mortality to zero

KATHMANDU: Minister for Health and Population, Pradip Paudel, has stressed that Nepal needs to continue its efforts for reducing the maternal and child mortality rates to zero.

Highlighting Nepal’s ‘significant achievement’ in reducing the maternal and child mortality rates in the recent years, the Health Minister pledged to allocate the budget for the health sector with a due priority to obstetrics and gynecology.

During an inauguration of the Maternal and New Born Health Simulation Lab operated by the Paropakar Maternity and Women’s Hospital, Thapathali here today, the Minister insisted on the sustainability of the effectiveness of the lab and its expansion to the province-level.

The lab is located at the Hospital’s Kupandole branch and the One Heart Worldwide supported in its establishment.

It will be used for enhancing knowledge and clinical efficiency of maternal and neonate health service providers.

Secretary at the Health Ministry, Hari Prasad Mainali, stressed the need of paying attention to the effective operation of the facility.

Acknowledging the constraint of human resources to handle the facility, he said, “Its sustainability matters.”
