KATHMANDU: The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has urged the public not to misinterpret recent electricity disruptions caused by adverse weather conditions as load shedding.

In a statement issued on Monday, the NEA clarified that short-term power outages in some areas were the result of pre-monsoon weather disturbances and strong winds.

The authority expressed serious concern over exaggerated portrayals of these outages on social media as deliberate load shedding.

“The disruptions occurred in some regions due to pre-monsoon conditions and windstorms,” the statement read. “Labeling these temporary outages as load shedding only spreads unnecessary fear and confusion among the public.”

The NEA further stated that its distribution center teams have been working around the clock to restore electricity services in affected areas, and that power supply has already been reinstated in most locations.

In addition, the authority has requested the public to immediately report any damage to electrical infrastructure by contacting the nearest NEA office or calling the hotline number 1150.
