KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress General Secretaries Gagan Thapa and Bishwa Prakash Sharma have taken an active role in addressing the ongoing teachers’ movement in Kathmandu.

On Tuesday, the two leaders held a discussion with officials from the Nepal Teachers’ Federation and leaders at the forefront of the protest at the party’s central office in Sanepa.

According to party sources, the meeting included in-depth conversations about the teachers’ demands and the background of the ongoing protest.

The Congress leaders expressed their commitment to putting pressure on the government to implement previous agreements made with the teachers.

Teachers across the country, led by the federation, have been staging protests in Kathmandu since April 2, demanding the government respect their rights and uphold past agreements. They have vowed to continue the movement until their concerns are addressed.

Previously as well, Nepali Congress leaders had urged former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli to take immediate steps toward resolving the teachers’ issues, highlighting the urgency and legitimacy of their demands.
