KATHMANDU: The CPN-UML has decided to honor seven individuals for their contributions to the communist movement in Nepal by recognizing them as “Communist Warriors” on the occasion of its Party Foundation Day.
According to Deputy General Secretary Pradeep Gyawali, the decision was made during the party’s Secretariat meeting held on Monday at the central office in Chyasal.
The party will commemorate its establishment on Baisakh 9 (April 22), and the following individuals will be honored:
Lal Bahadur Bishwakarma (Kanchanpur)
Late Ratna Sharma Nyaupane (Jajarkot)
Shobharam Basnet (Dang)
Basaswati Devkota (Gorkha)
Shanta Manavi (Kathmandu)
Satyanarayan Mandal (Saptari)
Haricharan Shivakoti (Jhapa)
These individuals are being recognized for their longstanding commitment and contributions to Nepal’s communist movement.
In addition, the party has decided to celebrate Baisakh 11 (April 24) as a festival of republicanism, marking the historic overthrow of the autocratic monarchy and the official beginning of republican rule in Nepal.
“This is the day when the people won — a day when the seeds of republicanism were formally planted after the fall of the autocratic monarchy,” said Gyawali. “We will celebrate the day with a grand program in Kathmandu to educate the current generation about the significance of democracy, freedom, and the republic.”
He also informed that the meeting reviewed former King Gyanendra Shah’s recent activities.
The party expressed concern over Shah’s video message released on Sunday, concluding that he still harbors hopes of reversing the gains achieved through the democratic movement.
