KATHMANDU: A woman who was swept away while bathing in the Kaligandaki River at Modibeni, Kushma Municipality–5, was found dead in Baglung district.

According to Ram Prasad Sapkota, the Information Officer at the District Police Office, Parbat, the body of 38-year-old Bishnu Panta was recovered on the riverbank at Binamare in Jaimini Municipality–5, Baglung.

Pant had gone to bathe at the sacred confluence of the Kaligandaki and Modi rivers—known as Modibeni Divyadham—with her son and sister. Shortly after entering the river, she was swept away by the current.

“As soon as we received the report of the incident, we rushed to Modibeni and began search operations,” said Inspector Sapkota. “While searching downstream, we eventually located her body. Since the location falls within Baglung district, we handed over the case to the Baglung police.”

Originally from Lunkhudeurali, Panta had been living in Amarsingh Chowk, Kaski, and had come to visit her sister in Kushma for the New Year.

Modibeni, revered by Hindus as a sacred site, attracts large numbers of devotees, especially on auspicious days like the Nepali New Year, when ritual bathing is considered highly meritorious.

Search and recovery efforts were carried out jointly by the Nepal Police and Armed Police Force (APF) Unit No. 25, Chandika Battalion.
