Woman swept away by Kaligandaki river

KATHMANDU: A woman has gone missing after being swept away by the Kaligandaki River while bathing in Kushma Municipality-5, Modibeni, on Monday afternoon.

According to the District Police Office, Parbat, 38-year-old Bishnu Panta of Mahashila Rural Municipality was carried away by the river at around 12 noon while she was bathing. Despite continuous search efforts, she has not yet been located.

Pant, originally from Lunkhudeurali, Kaski, was currently residing in Amar Singh Chowk, Pokhara. She had come to visit her sister in Kushma for the New Year celebration.

She had gone to bathe at the confluence of the Kaligandaki and Modi Rivers, a popular location that draws large crowds, especially on festive days like the Nepali New Year.

District Police Office spokesperson Inspector Ram Prasad Sapkota confirmed the incident and said that search operations are ongoing.
