KATHMANDU: Despite the arrival of the Nepali New Year, teachers across the country have continued their protest, refusing to return to their duties until their demands are addressed.

The ongoing demonstration, which began on Chaitra 20, has entered a new phase today as protesting teachers once again filled the streets of Kathmandu.

Their primary demand is the immediate introduction of a new Education Act that addresses their concerns regarding job security, contract provisions, early childhood development roles, and other pressing issues.

Organized under the call of the Nepal Teachers’ Federation, educators from across the country have gathered in the capital, marching from Maitighar Mandala to New Baneshwor.

The federation has expressed disagreement with 18 specific points in the current draft education bill.

Protesters have drawn attention through peaceful yet symbolic demonstrations, including waving hands, lighting mobile flashlights, sleeping on the streets, blowing whistles, and showcasing local art, culture, and traditional attire to highlight their demands.

The teachers remain firm in their stance, declaring they will not return to classrooms until their voices are heard and the government takes concrete action.
