KATHMANDU: Actress Arunima Lamsal has filed for divorce from her husband Yuvaraj Shrestha. Although she recently returned to Nepal from the United States, reportedly to promote her film “Ghar: But in America”, it has now come to light that her primary reason for the visit was to initiate divorce proceedings.

Now a U.S. citizen, Arunima could not file the case directly in Nepal, so she has started the legal process through a representative (power of attorney). She claims that her marital relationship could not progress due to false claims made by Yuvaraj before their marriage.

The couple had a traditional wedding on Bhadra 3 (late August) at the Ram Mandir in Kathmandu.

The marriage was arranged through relatives and took place after only a brief period of acquaintance. Arunima returned to the U.S. shortly after the wedding and reportedly never stayed at her husband’s home.

According to Arunima, she discovered several negative things about Yuvaraj soon after the wedding, which led her to conclude that the relationship was built on lies. In an interview, she said: “Before the marriage, everything about him seemed good. After the marriage, everything seemed bad. He hasn’t admitted to lying.”

She also revealed that the couple has not spoken for several months. On the other hand, Yuvaraj has yet to comment publicly, but sources suggest he is not in favor of divorce.

According to Nepali law, mutual consent is required for divorce. However, if one party files and the other does not respond or sign within a year, the court can issue a unilateral divorce decision.

This is Arunima’s second marriage. She was previously married to Amit Aryal, with whom she has a daughter.

The couple had moved to the U.S. but divorced shortly after. Amit has since remarried.
