KATHMANDU: Mumbai Indians handed Delhi Capitals their first defeat of the IPL 2025 season, bringing their unbeaten run to a dramatic halt with a 12-run win at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.
Chasing a challenging target of 206 runs, Delhi faltered despite a strong foundation and were bowled out for 193 in 19 overs.
The match saw a stunning collapse as Delhi lost their last three wickets to run-outs in a single over, dashing hopes of a comeback.
After losing an early wicket with no runs on the board, Delhi found stability through a magnificent 119-run partnership between Abhishek Porel and Karun Nair. Nair played a stellar knock, scoring 89 off 40 balls, smashing 12 fours and 5 sixes. Porel supported with a handy 32 off 25 balls.
However, the middle and lower order failed to capitalize, with KL Rahul (15), Ashutosh Sharma (17), and Vipraj Nigam (14) being the only other contributors in double digits.
Mumbai’s bowling attack was led by Karn Sharma, who picked up three wickets. Mitchell Santner claimed two, while Deepak Chahar and Jasprit Bumrah took one each.
Earlier, after being put in to bat, Mumbai posted an imposing total of 205 for 5. Despite an early setback with Rohit Sharma falling for 18, the visitors bounced back through a 60-run third-wicket partnership between Suryakumar Yadav (40) and Tilak Verma.
Tilak starred with the bat, smashing 59 off 33 balls, laced with 6 fours and 3 sixes. Naman Dhir added finishing touches with an unbeaten 38 off 17 deliveries.
For Delhi, Vipraj Nigam and Kuldeep Yadav took two wickets each, while Mahesh Kumar chipped in with one.
With this win, Mumbai Indians climbed to seventh on the points table with 4 points from 6 matches, while Delhi Capitals, now with 8 points from 5 games, dropped to second place.
