KATHMANDU: The preliminary hearing on the writ petition filed by Rabi Lamichhane has been concluded at the Supreme Court.

The hearing took place on Sunday in a single bench of Justice Tek Prasad Dhungana.

The final verdict from the Supreme Court is still pending.

Lamichhane had filed the writ petition last Friday, seeking to overturn the decision of the Butwal bench of the High Court Tulsipur, which had ordered his remand in custody pending trial.

The petition was personally registered at the Supreme Court by his wife, Nikita Poudel.

Earlier, the Rupandehi District Court had ordered Lamichhane’s release on a bail of Rs 10 million. However, that order was later overturned by the Butwal High Court.

The High Court had directed that Lamichhane be remanded to custody over allegations related to embezzlement of cooperative funds.

The remand order was issued by a bench comprising Justices Ramesh Dhakal and Swikriti Parajuli.

Lamichhane, a prominent media personality and political figure, faces serious accusations concerning financial misconduct, which has drawn significant public and legal attention.
