KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court of Nepal is set to conduct a preliminary hearing on a writ petition filed by Rabi Lamichhane, which is scheduled to be heard by the bench of Justice Tek Prasad Dhungana.

The petition, filed last Friday on behalf of Lamichhane, challenges the decision made by the Butwal bench of the High Court Tulsipur, which had ordered his remand in custody pending investigation.

Lamichhane’s wife, Nikita Poudel, personally appeared at the Supreme Court to register the petition.

Earlier, the Rupandehi District Court had granted Lamichhane release on bail of Rs 10 million.

However, the High Court later overturned this decision, ordering that he be sent to custody in connection with allegations of embezzlement involving cooperative funds.

The controversial order from the High Court was issued by a division bench comprising Justices Ramesh Dhakal and Swikriti Parajuli.
