KATHMANDU: Arsenal’s title ambitions suffered a setback after they were held to a 1-1 draw by Brentford in the Premier League on Saturday, giving Liverpool a clearer path towards the trophy.

Thomas Partey gave Arsenal the lead in the 61st minute at the Emirates, but Brentford responded through Yoane Wissa, who equalized in the 74th minute.

Just four days after their impressive 3-0 victory over Real Madrid in the Champions League, Arsenal faced a tough challenge from Brentford. With this consecutive draw, Arsenal’s lead has now been reduced, leaving Liverpool needing just 9 more points to secure the title.

Arsenal, who have 63 points from 32 matches, remain at the top of the table, but Liverpool, with one less game played, are now 10 points behind. Brentford’s point pushed them past Crystal Palace into 11th place in the league standings.

In other Premier League action on Saturday, Manchester City thrashed Crystal Palace 5-2, Aston Villa defeated Southampton 3-0, and Everton edged out Nottingham Forest 1-0. Brighton and Leicester City played out a 2-2 draw.

Bruyne’s performance powers Manchester City to victory

In a match filled with drama, Kevin De Bruyne starred as Manchester City came from behind to defeat Crystal Palace 5-2.

De Bruyne, who recently announced he would leave the club at the end of the season, scored once and provided an assist, keeping City’s hopes of a Champions League spot alive.

Crystal Palace stunned City with goals from Eberechi Eze and Chris Richards in the 21st minute, taking a 2-0 lead.

However, City responded before halftime with goals from De Bruyne in the 33rd minute and Omar Marmoush in the 36th minute, bringing the score to 2-2 at the break.

In the second half, City sealed the win with three more goals. Mateo Kovacic scored in the 47th minute, James McAtee added another in the 55th minute, and Nico O’Reilly completed the scoring with a goal in the 79th minute.

This defeat ended Crystal Palace’s 11-match unbeaten streak. After 32 games, Manchester City, with 55 points, remain in fourth place, while Crystal Palace, with 43 points from 31 matches, sit in 12th.
