KATHMANDU: Pradeep Shumsher JB Rana, the 17th Inspector General of Nepal Police, passed away on Saturday evening at the age of 78.

According to family sources, he had been battling various health issues and was undergoing treatment at the time of his death.

His son, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Deep Shumsher Rana, confirmed that JB Rana’s final rites will be held at 11 a.m. on Sunday at the Pashupatinath Aryaghat.

Jabara served as the head of Nepal Police from the month of Ashoj in 2057 BS to Poush in 2059 BS.

His tenure saw significant changes in the country’s security landscape, including the establishment of the Armed Police Force (APF), which led to the integration of numerous police officers into the new force.

Jabara is especially remembered for his exceptional leadership during the difficult period of the Maoist insurgency.

He was known for effectively managing security challenges while maintaining impartiality in his decision-making.

His leadership was marked by firm decisions, such as assigning his own son to serve in the conflict-ridden district of Rolpa immediately after joining the police force as an Inspector.

His legacy in Nepal’s security sector will be remembered for his courage, decisive actions, and commitment to upholding law and order during one of the country’s most tumultuous periods.

With his passing, Nepal Police loses a respected and experienced leader who played a pivotal role in shaping the institution’s development during a critical time.
