KATHMANDU: A Nepal Army soldier deployed for the protection of Chitwan National Park has died after an accidental gunshot wound.

The incident took place at the Shree Naya Gorakh Battalion barracks located in Bharatpur Metropolitan City-22.

The deceased has been identified as 22-year-old Chandrakishor Das, who sustained a gunshot wound while cleaning his firearm.

According to Chitwan Police, the accidental discharge occurred around 9 AM on Friday, striking the soldier in his right thigh.

He was immediately rushed to Chitwan Medical College for treatment but succumbed to excessive blood loss.

Chief Conservation Officer of Chitwan National Park, Ganesh Panta, confirmed the death, while Nepal Army spokesperson Gaurav Kumar KC stated that the fatality was caused by severe bleeding from the injury.

Authorities have said a detailed investigation into the incident is underway.
