25 TB cases detected in single ward

KATHMANDU: A total of 25 tuberculosis (TB) cases have been identified in Ward No. 11, Dhamaura village, of Balwa Municipality in Mahottari district, according to Public Health Office health worker Pratibha Singh.
Birendra Mahato, in-charge of the local health post, stated that the infected individuals range in age from 17 to 74 years.
Of the total cases, around 80% belong to the local Muslim community, with the remaining cases from other ethnic groups.
Currently, 12 patients are undergoing treatment and taking medication under the supervision of the health post.
Local residents have urged authorities to launch a large-scale awareness campaign to identify more cases and prevent the further spread of the disease.
Tuberculosis is a highly contagious disease, often linked to smoking, exposure to dust and pollution, and poor nutrition.
Health experts warn that if left untreated, it can easily spread from person to person.
The Government of Nepal provides TB treatment and medication free of cost.
