KATHMANDU: Prominent monarchist movement leader Durga Prasai has been taken to the Kathmandu District Police Office as authorities initiate the process of extending his judicial custody.
Prasai, who had been on the run after leading a provocative protest in the Tinkune area, was handed over to Nepal Police by Indian security forces on Friday.
He was reportedly apprehended in Assam by Indian authorities in coordination with their Nepali counterparts.
Before being presented to the Kathmandu District Court, Prasai was taken to the Office of the Government Attorney for administrative procedures.
In an effort to avoid media attention and public gatherings, police discreetly drove him directly into the parking area of the government attorney’s office.
The police have formally begun the process of seeking an extension of his custody as investigations continue into his role in inciting unrest during recent demonstrations.
