KATHMANDU: Controversial political figure Durga Prasai, who was recently apprehended in the Indian state of Assam, is being flown to Kathmandu from Bhadrapur via a Buddha Air flight, according to Nepal Police sources.

Prasai was handed over to Nepal Police by Indian security forces at the Kakarbhitta border early Friday morning.

He was then transported to Bhadrapur Airport in handcuffs for his flight to the capital.

According to Central Police Spokesperson DIG Dinesh Kumar Acharya, Prasai had been on the run after leading an inflammatory protest movement in the Tinkune area of Kathmandu.

He was captured by Indian police in coordination with Nepali authorities and repatriated through formal cross-border cooperation.

Alongside Prasai, his personal bodyguard, Deepak Khadka, was also taken into custody.

Police have confirmed that a detailed investigation will commence upon their arrival in Kathmandu. Legal proceedings, including a request for an extension of custody, are expected to begin shortly.
