KATHMANDU: Nepal Police has stated that there is no official confirmation regarding the arrest of Durga Prasai, the controversial royalist figure allegedly involved in violent protests.

Contrary to reports circulating on various media platforms, police say Prasai has not been detained as of Friday morning (7:30 AM).

According to Nepal Police spokesperson and Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Dinesh Kumar Acharya, Prasai remains at large and is still on the police’s wanted list.

“We are monitoring the news being published by various sources, but so far, we have not arrested Durga Prasai,” DIG Acharya clarified. “There is no official information on his whereabouts. Efforts to locate him are ongoing.”

While some unverified media reports claimed that Prasai had been arrested in India, the police have urged the public not to believe or circulate such information without confirmation.

Nepal and India do not have a formal extradition treaty, but both countries follow an informal protocol in such cases.

Typically, if a suspect is detained across the border, the local police bring them to the border area where the respective country’s law enforcement takes custody.

On Thursday night, Nepal Police issued an official statement expressing serious concern over the misinformation being spread regarding Prasai’s alleged arrest.

DIG Acharya appealed to media outlets and the public, saying, “We respectfully request everyone to refrain from disseminating false or misleading information. Durga Prasai is still wanted in connection with several criminal incidents, and we are actively searching for him.”
