KATHMANDU: The identity of a woman whose body was discovered earlier this week in the Panchkanya Community Forest in Dharan Sub-Metropolitan City Ward No. 6 has been confirmed, according to the Sunsari District Police.

The deceased has been identified as 34-year-old Chunikumari Dahal (Budhathoki), a resident of Halgada, Itahari Sub-Metropolitan City-2.

Her body was found on Monday under suspicious circumstances, but her identity remained unknown until Thursday.

Initial police investigations revealed that Chunikumari’s parental home is in Mahalaxmi Municipality-1 of Dhankuta district.

Her brother, Lil Bahadur Dahal, identified her body.

Chunikumari’s husband, Prem Budhathoki, is currently working abroad in South Korea.

He had returned to Nepal for about a month in Poush after spending five years overseas and has since returned to Korea, according to family members.

Authorities stated that the body is currently at BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences in Dharan, where the post-mortem process is underway.

Preliminary findings suggest that she may have been strangled and her body deliberately placed under a Lapsi tree to appear abandoned.

A joint investigation team from the Area Police Office Dharan, Sunsari District Police Office, and the Koshi Provincial Police Office in Biratnagar is actively probing the case from multiple angles.

While no suspect has been identified yet, the investigation is ongoing to determine who is behind the murder.
