Bodies of siblings drowned in Narayani River recovered

KATHMANDU: The bodies of two siblings who went missing in the Narayani River, located in Gaindakot Municipality-1 of Eastern Nawalparasi district, have been recovered.
On Wednesday, a team of divers from the Armed Police Force recovered the bodies of the children.
The siblings, 13-year-old Diksyha Serpunja and 9-year-old Swapnil Serpunja, had gone missing while swimming in the river on the evening of Chaitra 26.
Their disappearance was reported when they were swept away by the current.
A rescue team, led by Armed Police Assistant Inspector Bhup Bahadur Budhathoki from the Armed Police Force Nepal No. 17 Battalion in Chitwan, was dispatched for the search operation, including divers.
According to the Armed Police Force, Swapnil Serpunja’s body was found at a depth of 35 feet at 11:30 AM, while Dikshya Serpunja’s body was recovered from a depth of 50 feet at 12:30 PM.
The incident has deeply saddened the local community, as both siblings were well-known in the area.
