KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli today inaugurated the historic Paṇini Tapo Bhumi Conference in Pāṇini Rural Municipality, Arghakhanchi.
The two-day conference brings together scholars, religious leaders, researchers, policymakers, and other distinguished guests to honor the birthplace of the ancient Sanskrit grammar.
Organized by the Ministry of Industry, Tourism, and Transport of Lumbini Province, the Tourism Development Council, and the Pāṇini and Rainadevi Chhahara Rural Municipalities, the event aims to highlight the significant contribution of Pāṇini, the founder of Sanskrit grammar, to global linguistic heritage.
The conference was attended by Lumbini Province Chief Minister Chetan Narayan Acharya, prominent Nepali Congress leaders Dr. Chandra Bhandari and Dr. Pushpa Bhusal, and Lumbini’s Industry and Tourism Minister Prachanda Vikram Nyaupane, among others.
The event commemorates the sacred site where the great sage Paṇini meditated for 28 days near Siddheshwar Lake in the current Paṇini Rural Municipality.
According to legend, after enduring rigorous austerities, consuming only water and air, Lord Shiva became pleased and bestowed upon him the 14 Maheshwara Sutras while performing the Tandava dance to the rhythm of a damru drum.
