KATHMANDU: Energy, Water Resources, and Irrigation Minister Deepak Khadka has stated that the development of the energy sector will lead the nation towards prosperity.

Speaking at the inauguration of the Sanjen Khola Hydropower Project on Wednesday, Khadka emphasized that the government is working towards its goal of producing 28,500 megawatts of electricity within the next ten years.

He highlighted the importance of collaborating with neighboring countries to advance Nepal’s energy sector development.

Khadka expressed his satisfaction over the increasing domestic and international investments in the hydropower sector, noting that people are recognizing the potential for economic growth through investments in the energy sector.

He also mentioned that the energy sector has played a key role in strengthening relationships with neighboring countries.

Although the government aims to produce 28,500 megawatts of electricity within a decade, Khadka stressed that Nepal intends to make full use of its water resources to achieve this target.

The minister assured that there will be no load shedding for citizens in the future.

While acknowledging that the financial status of the Nepal Electricity Authority is not ideal, he pointed out that there are significant areas for improvement.

He also expressed confidence that with the leadership of the most skilled engineers in Asia as the executive director of the Electricity Authority, economic governance will be strengthened, ensuring the development of the hydropower sector without causing load shedding.
