KATHMANDU: The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) President, Rabi Lamichhane, is reportedly in grave danger, prompting a formal petition to the National Human Rights Commission.

A team from the party, including Chief Whip Santosh Pariyar, Deputy Secretary Kavindra Burlakoti, and Member of Parliament Ganesh Parajuli, met with the Commission’s Chairman on Wednesday to submit a petition demanding urgent attention to the issue.

According to Burlakoti, the petition highlights that the behavior and expressions of the police during Lamichhane’s arrest have put his life at significant risk.

The petition calls for immediate action to ensure his safety.

Lamichhane, who faces charges of embezzling cooperative funds, was ordered by the High Court in Butwal to remain in custody last Friday.

The decision, issued by Judges Ramesh Dhakal and Swikriti Parajuli, overturned a prior order from the Rupandehi District Court, which had allowed Lamichhane’s release on a bail of one crore Nepali rupees.

The petition to the Human Rights Commission underscores the need for protection and a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding his arrest.
