Sudurpashchim govt. to provide Rs. 5 million aid to Accham fire victims

KATHMANDU: The Sudurpashchim Province Government has decided to provide financial assistance of Rs. 5 million to the families affected by the devastating fire that broke out at Jaygad Bazar in Bannigadi Jayagad Rural Municipality, Accham, on Tuesday night.

The decision was made during a meeting of the Province Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council held on Wednesday morning.

Chief Minister Kamal Bahadur Shah announced that the assistance would be provided based on the preliminary damage report.

“The amount will be provided to Bannigadhi Jaygad Rural Municipality from the Provincial Disaster Management Fund,” said Chief Minister Shah. “The municipality will distribute the relief based on human assistance criteria.” He also mentioned that additional assistance would be considered once a complete damage report is received.

To assess the situation on the ground, the provincial government has decided to send Social Development Minister Meghraj Khadka and Internal Affairs Minister Hira Sarki to Jaygad.

According to the Accham Police, the fire, which started from a gas cylinder explosion at around 7:00 PM on Tuesday, rapidly escalated and destroyed 27 houses completely.

The fire was brought under control after five hours.
