KATHMANDU: A massive fire broke out in the Jaygadh market, located in the Bannigadi Jayagad Rural Municipality, Accham.

The fire reportedly started when a gas cylinder exploded at the IME Center, operated by Pushparaj Sharma.

The fire, which started around 7 PM on Tuesday, caused significant damage to several businesses in the market.

Among the affected properties were Himal Saud’s mobile shop, Ram Bahadur Raut’s herbal store, Manju Saud’s herbal shop, Rati Saud’s rental shop, Gokul Saud’s grocery store, Kismat Sunar’s gold and silver shop, Khagendra Saud’s grocery store, Ratan Saud’s house, and Kalu Sunar’s gold and silver shop, as confirmed by the Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) of the Achham District Police Office, Ishwari Prasad Bhandari.

In response to the fire, a combined effort was made to control the flames.

A 20-member team from the Nepal Army’s Gorkha Box Battalion, led by Sergeant Amrit Khadka, a 9-member team from the Achham District Police Office, commanded by Police Inspector Jai Parki, and an 11-member team from the Armed Police Force, Khaptad Gulm, led by Armed Police Inspector Hansraj Joshi, were deployed.

Additionally, a fire engine from the Mangalsen Municipality also assisted in extinguishing the blaze.

Preliminary estimates by the police suggest substantial damage in the Jaygadh market due to the fire.

The situation was further complicated by the fact that the fire broke out at night, which made it difficult to control the flames promptly.
