KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology has invited protesting teachers for talks.

In a press release issued on Tuesday, the ministry’s spokesperson and joint secretary, Shiva Kumar Sapkota, urged the Nepal Teachers’ Federation to come to the table for dialogue.

Previously, the ministry had called for discussions on the 21st and 22nd of Chait (April 3 & 4).

However, teachers have rejected the invitation, stating that the government’s call for talks is unnecessary at this time.

The Teachers’ Federation has sent a response to the ministry, asserting that the School Education Act should be enacted as per the previous agreements.

On Monday, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and Education Minister Bhattarai had also assured that the issues affecting teachers would be resolved through dialogue.

Spokesperson Sapkota reiterated the invitation on the 27th (April 9), announcing that the time and schedule for the talks would be mutually agreed upon.

The invitation includes representatives from various teacher and staff categories, including relief, temporary, former secondary school teachers, and staff involved in early childhood education.
