KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli emphasized the need for firm determination in delivering service to the people with a pure heart to strengthen the democratic republic, stressing the importance of good governance.

Addressing the Madhesh Provincial Assembly today, he highlighted that the primary right of the people is freedom from poverty, emphasizing that no other rights have meaning when poverty is not eradicated.

He called for collective efforts in advancing the journey towards development and prosperity.

“The federal democratic republic is a great achievement. This achievement should not only be seen as a political victory but also as one earned through the people’s struggle. Therefore, our efforts should be dedicated to serving the people. We must work for a complete democracy,” said Prime Minister Oli. “People seek the fruits of change for the benefit of their stomach, their body, and their children’s future. We must allow them to exercise their democratic rights and promote democracy in all aspects of social life. For this, society must be driven forward with the momentum of development and good governance.”

Prime Minister Oli praised the social and cultural harmony, tolerance, and goodwill in the Madhesh province, recognizing the disciplined, conscious, and development-oriented citizens of the region for their contribution to preserving Nepal’s independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity, national unity, freedom, and dignity.

He also mentioned that the Constitution has granted autonomy to Madhes Province, and it is everyone’s responsibility to utilize this autonomy effectively. The Prime Minister highlighted the crucial role of the provincial government in ensuring effective coordination between the federal, provincial, and local governments, as well as in policymaking and development.

Prime Minister Oli pointed out that Madhesh Province is rich in potential, with fertile land, suitable areas for agriculture, abundant water resources, and a wealth of medicinal plants and forests. He emphasized the need for collective efforts to advance the region’s development.

He noted that the Sunkoshi Marine Diversion Project will enhance irrigation in Madhesh, boosting national production and productivity, while fostering unity between the hills and the Terai.

He also discussed the potential of industrial zones, petroleum pipelines, railways, postal roads, expressways, and the Ram Rajaprasad Singh Hospital as the foundation for the region’s development and prosperity.

The Prime Minister proposed the development of the integrated customs checkpoint and the main border post at Birgunj as an economic hub, and the ancient city of Janakpur as a base for cultural tourism.

He called for remembrance of the historical figures and scholars such as King Janak, Mata Sita, Sage Parshuram, poet Vidya Pati, and deities like Chhinnamasta and Gadhimai, emphasizing the importance of advancing on the path of development while honoring the wisdom and glory of these ancestors.
