KATHMANDU: A woman’s body was found in the Panchakanya Community Forest Area, located in Dharan Sub-Municipality-6, Sunsari.

The body, estimated to be that of a woman around 30 years old, was discovered in a semi-nude state.

On Friday, local residents, who had gone for herding, spotted the body under a tree and immediately notified the police.

In response, a joint team from the Dharan Area Police Office, Sunsari District Police Office, and Koshi Province Police Office in Biratnagar was deployed to the scene.

According to Sunsari’s Police Chief, SP Suman Kumar Timilsina, preliminary investigations at the scene and the condition of the body suggest the woman may have been strangled to death. “It appears that the body was murdered and left abandoned under a tree,” said SP Timilsina. “The nature of the incident is extremely serious.”

A forensic team, including trained dogs, has been dispatched to further investigate the case.

The body has been sent to BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences in Dharan for a post-mortem.

Authorities are working to identify the deceased, and efforts to apprehend the perpetrator are underway.

The police have emphasized that the nature of the crime is serious and suspicious, and they are intensifying their investigation to identify the responsible party.
