KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, addressing the inaugural session of Himalayan Dialogue organized by Foreign Affairs Media, emphasized the contradiction between taking an oath under the Constitution and then publicly declaring opposition to it.

He described such actions as a lack of integrity and warned that such contradictions would prolong the transitional phase in Nepal.

Oli further criticized remnants of the feudal monarchy, noting that despite political changes, some still clung to regressive views, urging them to move on.

During his address, Oli reiterated that Nepal was striving to advance development and good governance in the face of historic political challenges.

He acknowledged the widespread expectations of the people and assured that his government was committed to addressing these through consistent efforts. “After taking the oath under the Constitution and then rejecting it in Parliament, this is an absence of integrity,” he remarked, stressing that such actions hindered the country’s progress.

Oli also highlighted Nepal’s unique geographical and cultural diversity, emphasizing the need for national unity amidst diversity.

“Without unity, we cannot achieve the goals we have set for ourselves,” he said. He urged the people to view diversity not as a burden but as a strength. He further stressed that Nepal must act as one when facing both domestic and international challenges.

In his speech, the Prime Minister also touched on Nepal’s strategic importance in the region, underscoring the role of the Himalayas in protecting the world from climate change. “Nepal’s Himalayas play a critical role in moderating the temperature of the Bay of Bengal and preventing global warming,” he explained.

Reaffirming Nepal’s independent foreign policy, Oli stated that the country would continue to safeguard its sovereignty and national interests, while contributing to global security and human welfare.

He emphasized that Nepal would not align itself with any military alliances, asserting that the nation remains committed to peace. “We are not interested in political games that involve favoring one neighbor over another,” Oli stated, highlighting the importance of a balanced, strategic approach to foreign relations.

The Himalayan Dialogue series, the first of which was inaugurated today, will feature discussions among political leaders and diplomatic experts on Nepal’s foreign policy.

Gopal Khanal, Chair of Foreign Affairs Media, announced that the sessions will focus on Nepal’s international relations, exploring the challenges and opportunities the nation faces in the global arena.
