KATHMANDU: The CPN (Maoist Centre) has demanded that the government immediately issue the School Education Act, based on the previous agreement with the Nepal Teachers’ Federation.

In a statement issued today, Maoist Centre Vice Chair and Spokesperson, Agni Prasad Sapkota, urged the government to enact the law either through a special session of Parliament or other means to create an environment where teachers involved in protests can fulfill their educational responsibilities.

Emphasizing the need for qualitative reforms in education, the Maoist Centre pointed out that creating a motivating environment for teachers who have been working at the school level for a long time, along with ensuring their professional security, is a fundamental requirement.

The Maoist Centre also highlighted that while the Constitution guarantees the right to education for all citizens, the restructuring of the education sector in line with the principles of federalism cannot be achieved until the necessary legal and policy frameworks are in place.

Additionally, the party drew the government’s attention to the need for the immediate enactment of laws related to civil services, education, health, police, and other sectors.

Recalling that the previous government under their leadership had drafted the School Education Bill and submitted it to Parliament, the Maoist Centre accused the current government of jeopardizing the future of both teachers and students by failing to pass the bill promptly.

“After ten months of the government’s formation, ignoring the legitimate demands of protesting teachers, and then justifying the delay by claiming that the bill would be passed during the budget session is contradictory,” spokesperson Sapkota said.

Expressing solidarity with the teachers’ demands, the Maoist Centre also called on the general public to support the teachers’ cause.
