KATHMANDU: Victims of cooperatives, microfinance institutions, banks, and moneylenders held a protest in Kathmandu on Monday.

The demonstration started in the morning at Shanti Batika and marched towards the President’s Office at Sheetal Niwas.

The cooperative victims had initially planned to stage a sit-in right in front of Sheetal Niwas, but the police did not allow them to break into the restricted area.

The protesters raised slogans demanding an end to financial exploitation, calling for the ousting of political parties protecting financial mafias, and urging the confiscation of assets from swindlers and traitors who misused the savings of victims.

They also demanded immediate action to return the looted funds to the affected people.

The protesters criticized the government for its failure to regulate, supervise, and control cooperative institutions, branding it as incompetent.

Carrying placards, they accused leaders and workers from various political parties of being involved in financial fraud and organized crime, pointing to the nearly 3 trillion rupees misappropriated through cooperatives.
