KATHMANDU: The construction of the chariot for Bhairabnath, a key part of the historic Biska Jatra, is now in its final stages as the festival approaches.
Biska Jatra, a cultural and historical event that has been celebrated for over 1,500 years, is rapidly drawing near.
This grand procession in Bhaktapur will continue for nine days and eight nights.
The festival, which dates back to the Lichhavi period, marks the beginning of the New Year according to the Bikram Sambat calendar, taking place four days before the new year.
The event kicks off with the procession of the Bhairabnath and Shri Bhadrakali chariots, and this year’s Biska Jatra will begin on Chaitra 28.
For the chariot procession, a three-story, 35-foot-tall chariot in the pagoda style, crafted entirely from wood, is being built for Bhairabnath according to tantric traditions.
Additionally, a smaller chariot for Shri Bhadrakali is also under construction, adding to the grandeur of this ancient and revered festival.
