He died on Sunday night at the Frontline Hospital in Baneshwor due to heart and lung complications.

KATHMANDU: Bhairab Risal, a distinguished name in Nepali journalism and social service, has passed away at the age of 9
He died on Sunday night at the Frontline Hospital in Baneshwor due to heart and lung complications.
Born on July 13, 1928, in Tithli, Bhaktapur, Risal was renowned for his contributions to Nepali media, human rights, and social services.
Throughout his career, he became an inspiring figure in these fields. In a final act of generosity, he made the decision to donate his body for medical study at Patan Hospital, underscoring his unwavering commitment to society until the very end.
Risal gained widespread recognition through his long-running program, ‘Uhile Bajeka Paalama’, on Radio Sagarmatha, where he brought Nepali history, culture, and everyday life to life. A believer in leftist ideologies, Risal even ran for office in the 2048 BS (1991 AD) general elections, representing the Nepal Labour and Farmer Party from Bhaktapur.
His journalistic journey was solidified with his role as a senior news correspondent at the National News Agency (Rastriya Samachar Samiti, RSS), where he made significant contributions. Prior to that, he also served in the Department of Statistics.
Risal was the author of several works, including “Sadhulai Suli”, “Logneswasini,” “Kahi Mitraka Chithi”, and the autobiographical book Bhairab Dai.
His remarkable work in human rights, environmental protection, and literature earned him prestigious accolades, including the ‘Jagadamba Shri’ award. Despite his passing, the light of his legacy will continue to shine brightly in Nepali society, as his messages and contributions remain timeless.
Risal leaves behind his wife, two sons, and two daughters, who will carry forward his family legacy.
