KATHMANDU: A petition has been submitted to Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli today, urging the inclusion of the Khaptad Engineering Campus in the upcoming national budget.

The petition was presented by a delegation from Doti, comprising representatives from the Nepali Congress, CPN (UML), and other local authorities, who emphasized the need for essential infrastructure and academic facilities to support the operation of the campus.

The petition was handed over at the Prime Minister’s official residence in Baluwatar. Among those present were former Minister Bir Bahadur Balayar, Constituent Assembly members Gauri Oli and Bharat Bahadur Khadka, Sudurpashchim Province Assembly member Chakra Malla, District Coordination Committee Chief Lakshman Bahadur Singh, Bajis Singh Khadka of Dipayal Silgadhi Municipality, Lokendra Bahadur Shah, Chairperson of KI Singh Rural Municipality, Nepali Congress District President Narendra Bahadur Singh, and CPN (UML) District President Manju Mala.

The Khaptad Engineering Campus, planned under the auspices of Tribhuvan University, was initially set to be established in Thapla, Dipayal Silgadhi Municipality-6.

However, due to a lack of budget and manpower, progress has stalled. The delegation highlighted this issue and called for intervention at the highest political level.

During the meeting, senior CPN (UML) leader Ishwar Pokhrel, Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak, and other prominent leaders discussed the importance of prioritizing Doti in the upcoming budget to address its lagging development.

Prime Minister Oli reassured the delegation, stating that he was well aware of Doti’s historical significance and its current developmental challenges.

He assured them that the district would be given priority in the upcoming budget.

Prime Minister Oli also mentioned that the government is focusing on completing ongoing projects and ensuring financial resources for effective implementation.

He suggested that when constructing infrastructure for the Khaptad Engineering Campus, the inclusion of a hostel facility would be essential, allowing students from remote areas to stay and study at the campus.

The delegation’s efforts reflect the growing demand for higher education infrastructure in the region, with hopes that the upcoming budget will provide the necessary support to enhance Doti’s educational and developmental landscape.
