KATHMANDU: Today, the festival of Ram Navami is being celebrated across the country with devotion and reverence in remembrance of Lord Ram, the epitome of virtue.
This auspicious day, observed on the Chaitra Shukla Navami, marks the birth of Lord Ram in Treta Yuga as the son of King Dasharath and Queen Kausalya in the holy city of Ayodhya, India.
On this day, devotees gather in temples dedicated to Lord Ram for prayers and rituals.
Many also observe fasts, take holy dips in sacred rivers, ponds, and kunds, and engage in the reading of Ramayanas, including those written by Valmiki, Tulsidas, and Bhanubhakta.
The traditional observance includes bhajans and kirtans throughout the night to honor Lord Ram.
According to the Ramayan and other sacred texts, observing fasts and worshipping Lord Ram on this day brings peace, happiness, and spiritual benefits both in this world and the afterlife.
The festival symbolizes the victory of truth over falsehood, as Lord Ram inspired humanity to follow the path of righteousness by obeying his father’s strict orders.
In Nepal, numerous Ram temples such as the ones at Battisputali, Aryaghat near Pashupatinath, and Arubari in Gokarneshwar Municipality-9, along with various other locations, host vibrant fairs and celebrations.
