Barcelona held to a 1-1 draw at home by Real Betis

KATHMANDU: Despite the draw, Barcelona, who lead La Liga, remain 4 points ahead of their rivals Real Madrid.

Although Xavi Hernandez’s side delivered a one-sided performance, they had to settle for a draw. Betis also ended Barcelona’s streak of 7 consecutive victories across all competitions.

Barcelona took the lead in the 7th minute through midfielder Gavi’s goal. However, Betis equalized just 10 minutes later when defender Natan rose to head home Giovanni Lo Celso’s corner.

In the second half, Barcelona’s Jules Koundé had a chance to restore their lead, but his shot was saved by Betis’ goalkeeper Adrián.

The draw also ended Betis’ winning run of 4 matches.

Earlier on Saturday, Valencia secured a 2-1 victory over Real Madrid, scoring a decisive goal in the 95th minute.

After 30 games, Barcelona has 67 points, while Betis remains in 5th place with 48 points.

In other matches, Espanyol defeated Rayo Vallecano 4-0, Alavés beat Girona 1-0, and Celta Vigo triumphed over Mallorca 2-1.

Barcelona will face Borussia Dortmund at home in the first leg of the Champions League quarterfinals on Wednesday.
