KATHMANDU: Rabi Lamichhane, the President of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) and former Home Minister, has been taken to Bhairahawa by the police.
He was arrested from his residence in Buddhanilkantha on Friday night and was subsequently flown to Bhairahawa via a Yeti Airlines flight.
Lamichhane, who was held overnight at the Kathmandu District Police Complex in Bhadrakali, was transported to the airport at 7:30 AM on Saturday morning. However, the flight was delayed before departure.
He is facing charges of organized fraud in connection with the Supreme Cooperative scandal.
In this case, the High Court’s Tulsipur Bench in Butwal had issued an order for his remand in custody.
Following this order, the police took him into custody.
Previously, the Rupandehi District Court had granted him bail with a surety of one crore rupees.
However, the High Court reversed that decision and issued an order for his detention.
