Speaker Ghimire solicits votes for Dr Shakya from Speakers of 35 nations

KATHMANDU: Speaker Devraj Ghimire has taken the initiative to elect National Assembly member Dr. Anjan Shakya as a member of the Standing Committee on Sustainable Development of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU).

Ghimire wrote a letter to the Speakers of the 35 countries in the committee, asking for their votes in Shakya’s favour.

The delegation, including Speaker Ghimire and lawmaker Dr Shakya, left for Uzbekistan’s capital Tashkent today to attend the 150th Assembly of the IPU and the Fourth Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network.

The 150th Annual Meeting and the Fourth Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network will be held in Tashkent from September 23 to 27. MP Shakya is scheduled to participate in the forum of women parliamentarians there.

Shakya is also scheduled to present a candidacy on behalf of the Asia-Pacific region at the Standing Committee on Sustainable Development there.

She is also a member of the National Assembly’s Development, Economic Affairs and Good Governance Committee and coordinator of the Sustainable Development Subcommittee of the same committee.

Under the leadership of Shakya, the ‘Study Report on Nepal’s graduation from Least Developed Nation to Developing Nation-2081’ report has been prepared and submitted to the Development, Economic Affairs and Good Governance Committee of the National Assembly.
