Oli & Modi hold key bilateral talks in Bangkok
The meeting, which took place on the sidelines of the summit, focused on discussing mutual interests and bilateral concerns, according to the Prime Minister's Secretariat.

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a bilateral meeting on Friday in Bangkok, Thailand, following the conclusion of the sixth summit of the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC).
The meeting, which took place on the sidelines of the summit, focused on discussing mutual interests and bilateral concerns, according to the Prime Minister’s Secretariat.
The meeting was made possible after diplomatic efforts by Nepal’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and it marked an important opportunity for dialogue between the two leaders.
It has been over eight months since Oli assumed office as Nepal’s Prime Minister, but he has not yet received an invitation to visit India from Prime Minister Modi.
In contrast, former Prime Ministers Pushpa Kamal Dahal and Sher Bahadur Deuba had received invitations for official visits to India.
The delay in Oli’s visit to India has been perceived as a sign of a cooling of relations between Nepal and India.
Consequently, the meeting between Oli and Modi in Thailand has been viewed as a highly anticipated encounter.
Prime Minister Oli had previously met Modi on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York last September.
