Nine held in Sunsari with drugs, including four from Itahari

KATHMANDU: Nine people, including four from Itahari, have been arrested by the police in Sunsari on charges of drug trafficking.

According to the Sunsari Police, a joint team from the Narcotics Control Bureau in Biratnagar and the Laukahi Area Police Station in Sunsari apprehended the suspects near the Customs Office in Koshi Rural Municipality-1, while they were suspiciously approaching Nepal from India on motorcycles and by foot.

The arrested individuals include 34-year-old Manoj Kumar Chaudhary from Itahari-16, 23-year-old Sanam Tamang from Itahari-6, 27-year-old Niraj Limbu from Itahari-2, and 22-year-old Sandeep Magar, also from Itahari-2.

From Chaudhary’s possession, the police recovered 27 grams and 270 milligrams of a substance resembling brown sugar.

Similarly, Tamang was found in possession of 26 grams of brown sugar. Limbu, who was riding a motorcycle, had 3 grams and 506 milligrams of the substance concealed in his body.

Additionally, 2 grams and 100 milligrams were recovered from Aditya Chaudhary of Ramdhuni Municipality-9.

Begraraj Limbu, aged 28, from Dharan-17, was caught with 3 grams and 130 milligrams of brown sugar, while his companion, 34-year-old Sagar Rai from Dharan-17, was also arrested.

Furthermore, Manish Chaudhary, aged 26, from Ramdhuni-2, had 2 grams and 560 milligrams of the drug, and 35 grams and 880 milligrams were found with 26-year-old Vijayan Sah from Ramdhuni-5.

The arrested individuals reportedly crossed into India through the Bhantabari border post to purchase drugs before returning to Nepal on motorcycles, scooters, and on foot.

The nine suspects are currently under further investigation, with their remand extended by the Sunsari District Court on Thursday.

They face charges under the Narcotics Control Act.
