SC hears writ petition on Ghising’s removal; verdict expected today
The hearing had been ongoing previously but was adjourned after it could not be completed.

KATHMANDU: A writ petition concerning Kulman Ghising and the newly appointed Executive Director of Nepal Electricity Authority, Hitendradev Shakya, was heard today (Thursday) in the Supreme Court.
The hearing had been ongoing previously but was adjourned after it could not be completed.
On Tuesday, legal representatives of Kulman Ghising presented their arguments, while legal representatives of Hiterdev Shakya did so on Wednesday.
On the same day, Attorney General Ramesh Badal represented the government in the case.
After the arguments from Hitendradev and the government’s lawyer on Thursday, Kulman’s legal team made a rebuttal argument.
Following the conclusion of the debate, the court is now in the process of drafting its verdict, which is expected to be delivered today.
Ghising, claiming that he was removed from his position with malintent while his tenure was still ongoing, filed the writ seeking an interim order for his reinstatement.
On the other hand, Shakya had filed a writ four years ago, arguing that Ghising’s appointment was unlawful and his removal at the time was wrong.
The government’s decision to remove Kulman Ghising from his position had sparked protests on the streets and in the Parliament.
