KATHMANDU: A tense situation arose as soon as Kathmandu Metropolitan City’s Chief Administrative Officer Saroj Guragain arrived at the office.

Upon his return, Guragain was welcomed by all the elected representatives, except Mayor Balen Shah.

However, he was unable to sit in his office, as Mayor Shah had locked his office room.

Meanwhile, a meeting is currently being held under the leadership of Deputy Mayor Sunita Dangol.

After the failure of an obstruction by the city police on Thursday, Guragain finally reported to the office.

Guragain, who had been on leave since 7th Poush, was replaced temporarily by Acting Chief Administrative Officer Govinda Prasad Sharma, who resigned shortly after taking over the responsibility.

This left the metropolitan administration without leadership.

Due to the absence of a Chief Administrative Officer, the city employees have been upset, as they have not received their salaries.

They have demanded that Guragain be reinstated in his position.

Mayor Balen Shah had put Guragain under an unofficial suspension, accusing him of irregularities in the approval of the Kathmandu Tower project’s design.

As a result, he had banned Guragain from entering the office. Mayor Shah wanted to remove Guragain and appoint a new Chief Administrative Officer. However, as no charges were substantiated, the government refused to remove him.
