KATHMANDU: A tense and intriguing situation has unfolded in Kathmandu Metropolitan City.

After the ward chairs and employees prepared to bring Chief Administrative Officer Saroj Guragain back to the office, Mayor Balen Shah deployed the city police to the scene.

At the Kamaladi office, one group of employees gathered to welcome the Chief Administrative Officer, while on the other side, the Mayor had the police stationed, leading to a confrontation.

The employees have been demanding Guragain’s return as they have not received their salaries for five months, and the city’s operations have come to a halt.

Mayor Balen Shah had previously suspended Guragain without formal announcement due to alleged irregularities related to the approval of the Kathmandu Tower’s blueprint.

As a result, he had banned Guragain from entering the office.

Shah had wanted to remove Guragain and appoint a new Chief Administrative Officer.

However, when the government refused to remove him, as no allegations against Guragain were proven, the Mayor expressed his dissatisfaction publicly on social media.
