Administration to improve child correction centre

BIRGUNJ: District Administration Office, Parsa has begun initiatives to resolve the problems facing child correction centre in the district.
A recent meeting chaired by Chief District Officer Ganesh Aryal took a 13-point decision in a bid to end anomalies in the correction centre. “The children housed in the centre are in a sorry state. Immediate measures will be taken for their rights with the help of administration and even with the assistance from donor agencies,” he shared.
The boys in the correction home had demonstrated for a while on Tuesday, posing a 22-point demand before CDO Aryal, Police Chief Gautam Mishra and other stakeholders in the district.
The administration held a meeting in response to the demands and decided to provide a regular supply of drinking water from deep boring. It would be managed by Birgunj Metropolitan City.
Similarly, Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Birgunj will be requested to manage alternative energy for regular supply of electricity at the correction centre.
Birgunj Metropolitan City will install a CC camera to monitor security at centre. Similarly, District Administration Office will arrange fans. The entry of unrelated persons will not be allowed in the shelter.
Those in the correction centre will be provided psychosocial counseling once in a week.
As per decision, the centre is obliged to repair physical structures. The boys suffering from tuberculosis will be provided treatment with the coordination of Birgunj Metropolitan City.
Moreover, the children kept in the correction centre will be provided educational materials including textbooks with the help of organizations of private school teachers, it was shared. The Metropolis will manage a teacher to the children willing to study at the shelter.
Worryingly, the correction facility having capacity for 50 persons is crammed with 127 children.
