Govt. to grant Rs 10 lakhs each to families of two killed in royalist protest

KATHMANDU: The government has decided to grant Rs 10 lakhs each to the families of journalists Suresh Rajak and Sabin Maharjan, who lost their lives during a royalist protest in Kathmandu’s Tinkune area last Friday.

The Ministry of Home Affairs has instructed the Ministry of Finance to release the compensation funds.

The protest, led by royalist leader Durga Prasai, demanded the restoration of the monarchy and resulted in widespread violence, including vandalism, arson, and looting in various areas of Kathmandu, including Tinkune.

The police have arrested several individuals involved in criminal activities, but Prasai remains at large.
