Russia-Nepal strengthen energy cooperation in courtesy meeting

KATHMANDU: Energy, Water Resources, and Irrigation Minister Deepak Khadka held a courtesy meeting with the Ambassador of Russia to Nepal, Alexey Novikov, today.

During the meeting at the Ministry, discussions were held on various topics related to bilateral mutual interests and cooperation.

Minister Khadka expressed gratitude to the Russian government for its contributions and support in the development of Nepal’s human resources.

He recalled that the Panauti Hydroelectric Project was constructed with financial assistance from the Soviet government in the past.

Minister Khadka mentioned that the government of Nepal aims to produce 28,500 MW of electricity by the year 2035, highlighting the need for Russia’s support and collaboration to achieve this goal.

The Minister also urged the Ambassador to encourage Russian companies to invest in Nepal’s transmission lines, energy storage, smart grids, and green energy sectors.

In response, Ambassador Alexey Novikov expressed that Russian investors are keen to invest in Nepal’s energy and hydropower sectors.

Ambassador Novikov extended an invitation to Minister Khadka to attend the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum in June, the Neva International Ecological Congress in May, and the Russian Energy Week in October.
