Worker dies at Everest Base Camp

On the evening of Chait 17, around 7:30 PM, Sherpa fell ill due to altitude sickness.

KATHMANDU: A 55-year-old Nepali worker, Lanima Sherpa from Gaurishankar Rural Municipality-9, Dolakha, has tragically passed away at the Everest Base Camp.

According to Deputy Superintendent of Police, Dwarika Prasad Ghimire, Sherpa was working at the Everest Base Camp, located in Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Municipality-4.

On the evening of Chait 17, around 7:30 PM, Sherpa fell ill due to altitude sickness.

While being transported by horse to the Khumjung Health Post, he passed away on Chait 18 in Thukla, as confirmed by the police.

Following legal procedures, Sherpa’s body was airlifted to Kathmandu’s Teaching Hospital for an autopsy via an altitude helicopter.

After the post-mortem, on Chait 19, the deceased’s body was handed over to his nephew, Pemachiri Sherpa, for further arrangements.

The authorities are conducting a detailed investigation into the incident.
