KATHMANDU: The meeting of the Bagmati Provincial Assembly scheduled for Wednesday has been cancelled.

This decision comes after the Provincial Assembly Secretariat received a letter from the Provincial Chief, informing that the current winter session of the legislature has been concluded.

The meeting, originally planned for 1:00 PM, was postponed on Tuesday after no agreement was reached among political parties regarding the budget distribution.

This situation follows the opposition party, the Maoist Centre’s, objection to the government’s failure to maintain a balanced budget allocation and its inability to implement previous agreements. In response, the party threatened to disrupt the proceedings.

Following this, Speaker Bhuwan Kumar Pathak had been engaged in talks with representatives from all the parties to seek a consensus. “We were preparing to facilitate discussions and schedule a meeting of the Business Advisory Committee to ensure the session could proceed smoothly. However, after receiving the letter from the Provincial Chief announcing the end of the winter session, the meeting will not take place,” said Speaker Pathak.

Earlier on Wednesday, the Provincial Cabinet held a meeting where they decided to recommend to the Provincial Chief the conclusion of the winter session of the provincial legislature.
